Should I answer police questions?

Authored by Wendy Witt, Esq.

NO.

Always consult with a criminal defense attorney if you have been arrested and do not answer any questions without your attorney present - no matter whether you think you're innocent or not.

  • If you've been arrested, you have an absolute right to an attorney and it is always in your best interests to exercise that right - even if you are innocent.
  • The criminal justice system is not perfect and, sometimes, innocent persons are convicted of a crime they did not commit.
