How to find a good bankruptcy lawyer

You can find a bankruptcy lawyer by asking a friend or loved one for a referral. Your local bar association, the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), and our list of bankruptcy attorneys are a few more places to start.

In many states, lawyers are not allowed to say that they "specialize" in a specific practice, so don't be put off if you don't see the word "specialize" when researching attorneys. Instead, look for a lawyer who limits his or her practice to bankruptcy law.
