How do I stop harassment by creditors and debt collectors?

Authored by Wendy Witt, Esq.

Harassing phone calls to home and work, nasty letters, scary lawsuits, and frustrating wage garnishments are a total nightmare. But, you can stop it.

  • Creditor harassment must stop as soon as the court accepts your bankruptcy petition and issues an "automatic stay". As soon as the stay is ordered, all bankruptcy filers feel an incredible relief. It is like a thousand pounds have been lifted from their shoulders.
  • The stay is a court order, notifying creditors that you have filed for bankruptcy protection and that all attempts to collect on your debt must cease.

If there happens to be a break through call, all you need to do is say is "I'm represented by a lawyer" and provide your lawyer's contact information.
