Technology And Massachusetts Attorneys Do Mix

Technology And Massachusetts Attorneys Do Mix, By Editor, Attorneys.org

There have been many Massachusetts attorneys that have dabbled here and there with technology startups, and have thus shared their stories. This only proves that attorneys can not only be professionals, but be entrepreneurs as well.

What attracts these Massachusetts attorneys to the glamour of tech startups? Unlike many of their regular clients, a tech startup will pretty much rely on their lawyer to help build up and raise capital. Sometimes they also need to craft a good “out” for the owners as well.

Volumetric display
One such attorney joined a startup that prototyped an invention for a volumetric display. The device worked by projecting a 3-d display of a solid, much like a hologram but unlike it you can actually see what’s “behind” the object.

The invention was intended to help doctors visualize bodily scans looking, for example, at a cancerous growth. They can then determine where exactly the growth is and easily plot a trajectory for an incisive surgery. As the attorney, he was involved in the whole process of protecting the intellectual property, as well as solving various problems that crop up during technology transfers.

Dreams start young
Some Massachusetts attorneys even did not set out to become attorneys in the first place. They often start with a wondering of how things work and often plan to be engineers someday, only to be swayed later on by their parents to attend Harvard.

For example, another attorney became fascinated with cosmic phenomena, but when NASA cut back its budget for space exploration, he left his engineering aspirations and studied business and law instead, with the aim of being a bureaucrat and turn around the whole mess.

Of course real life doesn’t always work the way we want to, and he ended up a lawyer. But his curious mind never left him, and he still prefers startup technology companies as clients. The amount of invention and creativity never ceases with these types of clients, he claims.

Going on your own
Some attorneys even take it to the extreme by founding their own technology startup companies. His company married the best of both worlds; of both technology and law. He had setup up a data collection system for law firms and parceled them out to law schools.

Just like the dreaming attorney, this diy-attorney loves the tech startup clients. Most of the time they are brimming with optimism and energy, and they always have these crazy ideas that when you stop and think about them, they actually make sense.

As these stories show, even Massachusetts attorneys can have an impact on the technological progress of this country.
